The Appropriate Technology Centre (ATC) was established by the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) to undertake applied research for bridging technological gap in effort to catalyze access to Safe Water, Sanitation and upholding Environmental integrity.

Our Objectives:

  1. Undertake innovative applied research and development on appropriate technologies and approaches for water, sanitation and environment sector.
  2. Carry out capacity building of sector actors as a mechanism to strengthen appropriate technologies service chain.
  3. Build up the profile of appropriate technologies for sustainable water supply, sanitation and natural resources utilization.
  4. Demonstrate and popularize acceptable innovative technologies, practices, and approaches through innovative Financing Mechanisms.
  5. Continuously identify and address challenges facing the adaptation of appropriate technologies in the water, sanitation and environment sector.

What We Do

The Appropriate Technology Centre (ATC) is dedicated to advancing water, sanitation, and environmental solutions through comprehensive research, development, and implementation of appropriate technologies.

Our Key Activities:

  • Applied Research & Development: We conduct innovative research on technologies and approaches that address challenges in the water, sanitation, and environment sector.
  • Technology Validation: Through our Technology Applicability Framework (TAF), we profile and validate technologies to ensure they meet sector standards and user needs.
  • Capacity Building: We strengthen the capabilities of sector actors through training, workshops, and knowledge transfer initiatives.
  • Technology Demonstration: We showcase and popularize acceptable innovative technologies through practical demonstrations and pilot projects.
  • Knowledge Management: We maintain a comprehensive repository of validated technologies and best practices accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Partnership Development: We collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and private sector partners to scale appropriate technologies.
