Community Sanitation & Environmental Campaigns

Promoting hygiene, sanitation, and environmental conservation through community-based approaches

About Community Sanitation & Environmental Campaigns

Our community sanitation and environmental campaigns focus on promoting sustainable hygiene practices, proper waste management, and environmental conservation through participatory approaches. We work with communities to develop context-appropriate solutions that improve public health and protect natural resources.

Our Focus Areas:

  • Community-led total sanitation initiatives
  • Waste management and recycling programs
  • Environmental conservation campaigns
  • Hygiene promotion and behavior change
  • Low-cost sanitation technology promotion
  • School sanitation and hygiene education

Through awareness campaigns, capacity building, and technology promotion, we empower communities to take ownership of their sanitation and environmental challenges, creating healthier living environments for all.

Bio Enzyme Project

Bio enzymes are natural cleaning agents produced through fermentation of organic waste. They are effective, eco-friendly alternatives to chemical cleaners, promoting both sanitation and waste reduction.

Waste Reduction

Converts kitchen waste into useful cleaning products, reducing landfill waste.

Eco-Friendly

Natural, biodegradable, and non-toxic alternative to chemical cleaners.

Cost Effective

Low-cost production using readily available kitchen waste and simple ingredients.

How Bio Enzymes Work

Bio enzymes are produced through a simple fermentation process:

  • Mix fruit/vegetable peels, jaggery/sugar, and water in 3:1:10 ratio
  • Ferment for 3 months in airtight container
  • Filter and use as multipurpose cleaner
  • Effective for floors, toilets, dishes, and laundry

Benefits

  • Reduces chemical pollution in waterways
  • Lowers household cleaning costs
  • Promotes waste segregation at source
  • Safe for children and pets
  • Improves indoor air quality

Fossa Alterna Project

The Fossa Alterna is a simple, low-cost alternating pit latrine system that produces safe compost for agriculture. It promotes safe sanitation while recovering nutrients from human waste.

Safe Sanitation

Prevents contamination of groundwater and soil from human waste.

Nutrient Recovery

Converts human waste into safe, nutrient-rich compost for agriculture.

Affordable

Low construction cost using locally available materials.

How Fossa Alterna Works

The system uses two alternating pits:

  • One pit is used while the other composts
  • After 12 months, compost is safe for use
  • Pits are alternated every 12-24 months
  • Add soil/ash after each use to aid composting

Key Features

  • Two pit design for continuous use
  • No water required for operation
  • Produces safe compost for non-food crops
  • Reduces fly and odor problems
  • Easy to construct and maintain
